Volcanoes day trip: $100 USD

 

The "fuego" or fire volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the country, it rises 3960m above sea level and it is located north of the city of Colima. You can take a day trip up to the nearby mountains, driving first then walking through the woods until you arrive at its neighbour’s summit. Which, in contrast, is the peaceful Nevado volcano only 9km away, and at 4335m above sea level it offers a fantastic view of the active cone. If you’re lucky you’ll see one of its many small eruptions! It continuously emits sulphurous vapours, fumeroles and red-hot rock flows. Or you can camp in the woods there and see the sun set and rise again from behind the volcano, this is $40 USD extra.
